On June 14, Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell was admitted to hospital and has not yet returned home. Members of the GOP have claimed that he’s alive and that they’ve talked with him. There’s no proof of this other than a photo that could certainly be fake. Because so much is at stake and I don’t trust the GOP to be telling the truth, I asked: “Is Mitch McConnell still alive?” 14 July 2026, 11:45 a.m., Wauwatosa, WI.
Here’s some additional context: if McConnell were to die before Aug 3, Kentucky law would require that a special election be held to fill his seat. After Aug 3, his seat would remain vacant until the upcoming midterm elections in November.
So, let’s look at the chart.
McConnell is “some other person” to me, so he is signified by Mars, ruler of Aries on the seventh house cusp. Neptune is tightly conjunct this cusp, which I see as confirmation that I've chosen
the correct house.
Mars is in the ninth house, in Gemini. If McConnell were dead, the chart would show a recent past aspect between Mars and a planet signifying death. This could be Mars again, ruler of the turned eighth house (Scorpio on the cusp); or it could be Venus, ruler of the radical eighth house (Taurus on the cusp); or possibly it could be Saturn, as the natural ruler of death. (We’d use Saturn only as a last resort.)
Mars is already playing the role of McConnell here. Venus, ruler of the radical eighth, has not made any aspect with Mars recently. (Always check your ephemeris.) Nor has Saturn made any aspect
to Mars, just to rule this out as well.
Therefore, McConnell is still alive.
So, how is he doing? Is he capable of having conversations with his GOP colleagues?
Mars at 11.11 Gemini has only minor essential dignity (face). Mars’s dispositor is Mercury (ruler of Gemini). Mercury at 19.39 Cancer is conjunct Mars by antiscion (10.21 Gemini). Notably,
Mercury is combust, retrograde, and in a mute sign. It’s in very bad shape and it's afflicting Mars. I’d say that McConnell is unlikely to be having any conversations in his current state.
I’m not going to judge whether or when McConnell will die, because that’s not what I asked. I also feel that would be going too far, prying into McConnell’s personal fate when I don’t have a good
reason to do so. I asked if he was still alive, and I got the answer.
